Today you...tomorrow me. by mrcool256 Today you...tomorrow me. by mrcool256
Today's Christmas/New Years truth/lesson...

Life can be unpredictable, be nice to people, don't make the mistake of assuming they got to where they are through tremendous fault of their own.

...homeless gentleman I met on Venice Beach with his dog 'Shaky'.

this is my first bear with me.

the vision is about how he is homeless, which makes is pure and gentle, very very kind of you.
originality is very good, because I haven't seen such emotional portraiture in so long..
the technique is amazing...great focus, lovely colours, they make the subject jump out at you..its beautiful how you made the tone suit the subject.
impact...very great..everyone seems to be very moved by his expression, which the tone brings out even more..

well just overall great job!
I can't think of anything to make it better.

so yeah, great image, with so much power..very good.

:iconsobeautifulplz:Actually, your description "homeless gentleman" moves me as much as the photo itself. There are a lot of emotions and stories captured in the man's face and I think you captured them amazingly!

DD worth, I think

This is really powerful. I do agree with you with being nice to people, people always look down on others just because they are more well-off and thinks that those who are poor deserves what they have. Thanks for this wonderful shot :)

Be a bit more mindful of your background. It isn't blurred or busy enough to be neutral, and it is too blurry and plain to be an interesting addition. It looks vaguely like there is an umbrella coming out of his head. It is a good subject, reasonable post process, good technical execution, but mind your background. It may sound a bit harsh, but if everyone just types "awesome!" we can't improve much. You heard all the good stuff from everyone else :P

I love constructive criticism...I'm still very much an amateur, so comments like this are a big help, I really appreciate it. :)

I live in Downtown Atlanta, which has some of the most flagrant and dire homelessness you'll find in any American city, and I've never thought any of these guys (or the women who are also homeless, or their kids) did anything so terrible. There's a fine line between having a roof and losing that roof and I don't think most would choose the latter.

>>>>> Critique from an old competition(s) judge <<<<<<<

Everything about the old man and his dog is fabulous , his face , his expression
even the dog is looking at you . Sharpness and exposure are right on .
BUT !! you have 2 problems with this image , one small & one large .

The small one -- you've cut off his hands - this is a no no in portrait work
as an "old school" rule , either keep them all in the composition or all out .

The large one -- ALL- of the background behind him ! , it's a nightmare of
distractions , from overexposed whites to completely blown out whites and
their shapes .

The solution : go back and find this man again , offer him a reasonable amount
of money to work with you for 1/2 an hour ( enough cash to buy some food
for himself & his little friend - this works -i've done it )
and as you are the photographer --choose a good background to pose him in
front of , like a clean building wall or something like that , with good lighting
to your benefit . Then you will have an overall terrific image .

WON-DER-FUL *_____*

First of all, I have to say I totally agree with you life philosophy!

You've managed to show the character of the person you've photographed, I can see a kind, generous and emotional gentleman with the "best part" of his life behind him, and he knows it too.
I think this portrait would be a killer in B&W.

Well done!
