If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that besides being your local friendly neighborhood photog, I’m also an obsessive movie watcher. This being the case I find it my civic duty to recommend good films to people, whether they want to hear it or not. With that being said, I couldn’t help myself from giving all my great friends on Deviantart a quick rundown of some of my latest favorite movies… in hopes that if you are a movie fan even in the slightest; I can be the source of some good advice for what to rent. Here are five recent movies you need to watch, satisfaction guaranteed for most people.

5. The Darjeeling Limited- “Healing. A year after the accidental death of their father, three brothers - each suffering from depression - meet for a train trip across India. Francis, the eldest, has organized it. The brothers argue, sulk, resent each other, and fight. The youngest, Jack, estranged from his girlfriend, is attracted to one of the train's attendants. Peter has left his pregnant wife at home; he buys a venomous snake. After a few days, Francis discloses their surprising and disconcerting destination. Amidst foreign surroundings, can the brothers sort out their differences? A funeral, a meditation, a hilltop ritual, and the Bengal Lancer figure in the reconciliation.”

4. Sunshine-“With Earth's life source -- the sun -- dying out 50 years in the future, it seems the planet's days may be numbered in this sci-fi thriller. Humanity's only hope lies with a crew of astronauts transporting a device that will revitalize the sun. But an accident, a deadly error and a distress signal from a vessel that vanished years ago leave the cosmonauts fighting for survival ... and for their sanity.

3. Rocket Science- “Coming of age in Plainsboro, New Jersey. High school student Hal Hefner stutters. On the evening his parents stop arguing and separate, 43 miles away at the state tournament, his school's legendary debater, Ben Wekselbaum, goes blank mid-sentence, Ben's teammate Ginny Ryerson doesn't get a first-place trophy, and the world changes. That fall, to Hal's amazement, Ginny recruits him for the debate team, mentors him, and will be his partner. He still has his stutter, but he works hard and he falls in love with Ginny. On the day of the first debate of the season, the world changes again. From then until the day of the state tournament, Hal has a lot to sort out. Is love rocket science?”

2. Into the Wild- “Based on a true story. After graduating from Emory University in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters who shape his life.”

1. No Country for Old Men- “In rural Texas, welder and hunter Llewelyn Moss discovers the remains of several drug runners who have all killed each other in an exchange gone violently wrong. Rather than report the discovery to the police, Moss decides to simply take the two million dollars present for himself. This puts the psychopathic killer, Anton Chigurh, on his trail as he dispassionately murders nearly every rival, bystander and even employer in his pursuit of his quarry and the money. As Moss desperately attempts to keep one step ahead, the blood from this hunt begins to flow behind him with relentlessly growing intensity as Chigurh closes in. Meanwhile, the laconic Sherrif Ed Tom Bell blithely oversees the investigation even as he struggles to face the sheer enormity of the crimes he is attempting to thwart.”

Consider these recent films Mr. Cool approved. If you’ve seen them, I’m always down for discussion… and if you haven’t… get to renting.

Sunshine is a FANTASTIC movie. Didn't get anywhere near the advertising it deserved. I really want to see the Darjeeling Limited and No Country For Old Men. I should make that an order of business...

Hehe, thats so great... it figures that DA people would have great taste in movies too. That's so cool that you liked those ones. So out of Sunshine, Into the Wild, and No Country... which one would you say you liked more? Tough choice... I think I might go with No Country though...

I totally agree... it should have been advertised way more... because I thought it was probably one of the best scifi movies ever released... it's just a shame more people haven't seen/heard of it! And yeah... if you see those other two, let me know what you think!

Blah, I need to watch more movies! all those seem good to me. I need to get a TV or go to the city and the movies there! Or something, haha!
Well, all except the 'Into The Wild' That particular one doesn't really interest me cause I read a biography of him.. and I think that he was dumb. [Although I'm sorry he died and how he died...]
